Ask the General October 22nd, 2007
Dear General Drew,
I have only lived here a few years but I have a question that may sound foolish. I watched the Doo Dah Parade last year on Cable One. I enjoyed the broadcast and the broadcasters but I really don't understand it. Could you explain it too me a little bit more.
Sincerely,
Confused Parade Watcher.
Dear Friend,
Thank you for your question but don't fear. The Doo Dah Parade doesn't make sense.
Let me give you a little history. In 1993, The then-generalissimo, Steve Wilkin came to the realization that Neewollah had a parade for kids, a parade for the entire family but no parade for adults only. So, he instituted the Doo Dah parade and it will probably be his lasting legacy.
The main rule for the parade is that there are no rules. No organization. No sign-up list. No deadlines. Just show up before it starts and walk or ride in the parade carrying through the general theme of Neewollah/Halloween or this years theme which is “Knuckleheads in Dog Patch.” Nurses, doctors, teachers, lawyers, line dances, care facility folks, the queen candidates, and who know who else participates. The hopes and prayers of the Neewollah Board is that a "general sense of good taste" will prevail.
I mentioned no rules, but I have to explain this a little. This is an adult parade. No kids, or children are allowed. With the exception of the queen candidates, only adults are allowed. We always hope this will be honored by the participants.
I sincerely hope you come down or watch once again on Cable One but enjoy the evening of complete ridiculousness.
Sincerely,
Drew Demo
Generalissimo 2007
