The morning started out cold this today and as we went through registration / check-in time in the park. But when the race started we had a clear sky with the sun shining and temperatures warming up. We started with 141 runners that were registered in both the 5k and the 10K. With the 10k being new this year with a course that the runners were not sure about we had 23 total runners in it. The 5K ended up with 101 runners. There were some runners that we knew would not make it as the good old flu bug either got them or a family member. But overall still had a great turn out for the day. The 10k was within the number that I was hoping to get for a first time. After the race talking with some of the runners from both races all the comments were positive and the ones that I talked with had no problems with 10k course. Still looking for feedback from the runners on both races so that this can be used for improvements on the next year. The only small problem was with computer equipment in finishing up the races and this was a little delay in giving out the awards.
To all that ran a big thank you. To all that helped with all the runs (5k, 10k and 1Mile) a very big thank you as it doesn’t work without each of you.
A note to any of the runners that don’t have their medal I will get them in the mail to you this week.
Thanks and enjoy the next week of Neewollah 2009!

Once again, for 21 years in a row, we will be starting the first full day of Neewollah Celebration with the USA Track & Field Certified 5K Run.
At the same time we will have the first 10K run of Neewollah. The 10K run will not be certified this year, but if the interest is there, it will be a great addition to the opening day activities. What better way is there to kick off Neewollah than an early morning run through the beautiful Riverside Park.
As the runners are finishing up, the youth with parents, and folks that just want to take the early 1 Mile Fun Run / Walk will be getting ready.
The chili cook-off participations will be putting the great smell of some of the best chili around into the air.

10K Race Route: Going to try to explain the route of the 10K as I don’t have a map at this time. Please read through this and call or email if you have questions, and I will do my best to explain it. The 10K runners will start at the same time the 5K runners start. They all will run the certified 5K, but as runners are returning to the oval on the eastside you will follow the one-way road on the right. This section will have some red arrows on it, and will bring you back out on 5th street, and you will go to your left then re-enter the park at the same place you entered on the 5K. This area is marked with blue arrows. You will follow the blue arrows as they take you to the train then back to the West to 5th street then South toward the pool. At this time you will run the course back toward the oval in a reverse pattern than what you started. As you come around toward the finish you will pass the finish for the last leg of the race as you will see a red arrow. The runner will following the normal course back out until you reach the train again, then you will go straight over to 5th street again, and finish this last leg running the course backwards again toward the pool and on to the finish. Again if you have any questions please either call or e-mail me at:
Thanks and enjoy your day.
