Dear General Ann, Our favorite activity at Neewollah is the Saturday Grand Parade. Are the high gasoline prices going to affect the number of entries, especially the bands, in the parade this year? Sincerely, “I Love A Parade”
Dear Parade Fan, I agree that the Grand Parade is one of the many highlights of Neewollah for everyone. Yes, unfortunately our entries our down this year due to the high gasoline prices. We have heard from several school districts that they are having their travel budgets cut because of the gasoline prices and will be unable to attend Neewollah this year. We are fortunate that several of the favorites will be able to attend including, Independence High School, Coffeyville, Buhler, Caney Valley and Toganoxie along with Pittsburg, Lawrence, Seaman and Cherryvale. We also look forward to have many military groups represented in the parade. Neewollah’s Saturday night bandstand headliner, Heather Shelley will be riding through the parade along with the West Point Knight Caps, Cobalt Boats “Legends That Never Die”, Almost Ranch Arabian Costume Horses, and Bartlesville Fun Addict Clown will be returning. The Grand Parade will proceed through the streets of Independence this year under the new Neewollah banners that were purchased by the Board of Directors to replace the old, faded ones. We all look forward to another GREAT Neewollah Grand Parade… Ann W. Crow Generalissimo 2005
