Dear General Ann, I discovered the Neewollah website recently and read about the chili cook off. I love these events and years ago my parents brought me to Neewollah. Could you provide some of the details of the cook off. Out of town fan of Chili. Dear Chili Fan, The chili cook-off was started last year at Riverside Park and really received a positive reaction. It is scheduled on Oct. 22 and again will be held in Riverside Park. The cooking starts at 7:30. Free tasting beings at 11 a.m. and for $2.00 a visitor can receive an "endless bowl of chili. This price will include a ticket for the peoples' choice award. Registration will be on line or at Neewollah headquarters in Independence. Questions should be directed to Melissa Small at 620-331-9368. The judging of the chili will be at noon and the prizes will be presented at 12:30. But this is not just a chili cook-off. It is a time for a lot of other activities. So far, there will be a disc jockey, three inflatables, clowns with balloon animals, temporary halloween tattoos applied for free, hot dog eating contest with adult and child divisions and a pumpkin pie eating contest with adults and children competing in the same contest. As you can see, Neewollah continues to expand and to reach out for people of all "tastes." Hope to see you at the Neewollah Chili Cook-off!
