Independence is about 180 miles southwest of Kansas City, 120 miles east of Wichita and 95 miles north of Tulsa, OK. Sitting along the Verdigris River at the intersection of Highways 75 and 160, tree-lined streets with historic turn-of-the century homes set the stage for a one-of-a-kind experience. Legend has it that Independence, in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, had more millionaires per capita than any place in the United States.

Neewollah became a part of Independence in 1919 as a way to keep playful pranksters out of mischief on Halloween night. For 9 days in October, Neewollah entertains people from all walks of life, and Independence, a town of around 8,500, becomes a city of over 75,000.
